At least five school kids are reported dead when a bus carrying them back home lost its control and fell deep into a 250 ft gorge near Kandiwara. Deputy Commissioner Dr Farooq A Lone who was on the spot said they are in the process of sending the injured to the hospital.

The bus, bearing number JKO3A 2669, was driving home school children after a day of education. They all were enrolled with Model High School Diyalgam. “There were 14 kids in the bus when it met the accident near Kanidiwara near Akingam,” Dr Lone said. “Five are already dead and all others are being shifted to the hospital.” There were unconfirmed reports that some of the injured are being shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

The accident triggered a severe commotion in the entire belt and hundreds of people assembled near the spot of the accident. Police have started investigating the case. It is not immediately known if it was break-fail or negligent driving.
