To oversee the implementation of decisions taken at recently held conference on Juvenile Justice System, Justice Madan B Lokur, Judge Supreme Court of India, along with Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey visited the Juvenile Home at Harwan, Srinagar.
The team interacted with the children there and took stock of facilities available to the inmates at the home. Five missing children were found in the home and it was decided that immediate efforts be made to ensure their rehabilitation and safe return to their families in coordination with UNICEF India, Social Welfare Department and other line Departments including Police.
Among the missing children, three children were handed over to their families, and remaining two were reunited with their family members at a function held here today. The functioned was presided over by the Chief Justice and the process was held in coordination with District Magistrate Srinagar, UNICEF India, Mission Director ICPS J&K and Child Welfare Committee, West Bengal.
Chairman Juvenile Justice Committee J&K High Court, Justice All Mohammad Magrey, Chairman Selection cum oversight Committee, Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Special DGP, V.K Singh, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sajad Ahmad Khan, Registrar General High Court, Sanjay Dhar, Director Judicial Academy ( Secretary Juvenile Justice Committee High Court) Abdul Rasheed Malik, District Magistrate Srinagar, Syed Abid Rasheed, State Mission Director ICPS, G A Sofi, SSP Srinagar, Deputy Director ICDS and Representative of UNICEF besides father of one missing child were also present.
The rehabilitation process of the two restored children with their families will be monitored by the Social Welfare Department, District Magistrate Srinagar and Child Welfare Committee, West Bengal in coordination with UNICEF India so that these children do not become victims of exploitation again.
