In order to enhance connectivity of different habitations in Kashmir, Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that 50 bridges will be completed in next two months in the Valley, a government statement issued here reads.

Veeri was speaking at a meeting convened to review the progress of R&B and Mechanical Engineering wings of the department here today.

The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir, Sheikh Abdul Hameed, Chief Engineer Mechanical, Rajnesh Bal, Superintending Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers of R&B Department.

The Minister impressed upon the officials to speed up the works particularly those which are in the last stage of completion. He said it will provide relief and succor to the people in terms of connectivity particularly in the far flung areas.

Veeri asked the officers to closely monitor the progress of various developmental works. He stressed on regular site inspection of works which are in the execution stage.

Chief Engineer gave a detailed presentation of the achievements of macadamization of roads taken under state sector, NABARD, Central Road Fund and Prime Minister’s Development Programme (PMDP).

Under Central Road Fund, detailed deliberations were held regarding the approved cost of projects, expenditure and funds, number of schemes completed, land acquisition involved and technical specifications.

The roads which were discussed included construction of 4-lanning the Boulevard from Nehru Park to Kralsangri, improvement and upgradation of road from Zero Bridge to IG Road,  upgradation of road from Sangam to Sirigufwara via Khiram, upgradation/widening of Chadoora-Khanda road, upgradation of Beerwa-Budgam road.

Similarly the meeting discussed progress of improvement/upgradation of Behama-Safapora road, widening/upgradation of Ladoora-Achabal road, widening and upgradation of Bijhama-Lachipora road upto Muqam/Mayen, improvement/upgradation of Khumriyal-Rang road, widening/upgradation of Bijbehara-Shopian road, upgradation of Khannabal-Pahalgam road and Larkipora-Zaldoora road and others.

The Minister also sought details about status of various building works being executed by R&B wing of department.

The Chief Engineer R&B gave detailed construction status of Girls Hostels taken under RMSA, creation of Cluster University under RUSA, Polytechnic Institutions and DIET buildings.

The Minister also asked the mechanical department to gear up with men and machinery to meet any eventuality arising out of heavy rains and snow.

During the meeting, the Minister was informed that snow clearance machines like snow plough, snow cat (plough), snow cutter, dozer motor grader are ready and functional to press into services during snow fall in valley.
