Srinagar: Residents of Panchal Pora- Naghbal village in Anantnag district on Sunday expressed resentment against unscheduled power faced by the villagers.

The residents alleged that Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to repair the damaged transformer of Mir Mohalla area of the village from last 50 days thus forcing the villagers to reel under darkness.

They said that transformer in their area developed technical snag two months back but nobody from the concerned department bothered to look into the mater. “A local lineman repaired several times earlier but that too only after we provided him the money, said a local resident Ghulam Rasool. He added that despite requesting the department time and again nothing has been done on ground.

Residents also alleged that department is forcing them to pay the charges without receiving the electricity. “Isn’t this an injustice to us then,” said another local Shabir Ahmed. Another resident Bashir Ahmed said that frequent power cuts have become a daily routine now. “Our children are scheduled to meet competitive examinations this year but due to shortage they wind-up books before the dusk,” Bashir said adding that good time for studying is after 6 pm, but when there is no electricity how can they study.

The locals appealed the PDD higher ups to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at the earliest.
