SRINAGAR: Land measuring 500 kanals and 11 marlas at Village, Tehsil Sallar in District Anantnag has been transferred to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir for development as the institution’s proposed South Campus. Possession has been taken and the site fenced, but the government has no timelines for completion, and only limited funds have been allocated to date.
The Agriculture Production Department told the Assembly that the transfer was affected by a government order on September 14, 2023, and that the university has completed fencing of the entire land parcel. Officials said the site will be developed as SKUAST Kashmir’s South Campus “in due course of time” after obtaining required approvals from the competent authority, and explicitly stated that time-lines for completion of the conceptual proposal are not available at present.
The department also disclosed the financial outlay so far: an amount of Rs 1.00 crore has been allocated from the university’s internal revenue for research and experimentation activities in the current financial year. That sum, the reply said, has been utilised for the creation of a pre-fabricated structure to serve as a campus office, construction of raceways and other land-development works on the parcel transferred for the campus.
The official note made clear that further development will follow statutory approvals and funding decisions.
