SRINAGAR

Thousands of youth Thursday thronged the JAKLI headquarters at Rangreth in the outskirts of Srinagar city for a physical test.

Army according to sources has to fill 53 posts of soldiers in JAKLI for which physical test of the candidates scheduled for today surprised even the army officials.

“Not less than 20 thousand youth reached the venue for the test resulting in problems for the army to control them,” they said.

“It indicates the level of unemployment in the Valley,” said a local vender who had a good day at his tea stall.

Rangreth houses the Headquarter of JAKLI division of army.

However, defense spokesman in Srinagar, Lieutenant Col NN Joshi informed Kashmir Life that the recruitment drive was for the Territorial Army and not for the JAKLI. “Territorial army is a joint effort of various security agencies,” Joshi said adding “It is a positive sign that Kashmiri youth are desirous to join army.”

The candidates, according to sources have reached even from far off places like Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kulgam districts apart from the nearby Srinagar and Budgam.

They said some of the candidates are even post graduates.
