Jama’at-i-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI J&K) Sunday said that it would continue to follow its ‘boycott policy’ regarding elections held in Kashmir, a party statement said.
“Jama’at will remain completely aloof from the upcoming parliamentary elections as per its declared policy of staying away from the polls and will not, directly or indirectly, participate in the election process,” said Zahid Ali, JeI spokesperson quoting resolution passed in Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora (JeI advisory council) of Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir that was held on Saturday March 22 with Ameer-i-Jama’at Mohammad Abdullah Wani in chair.
He said that Jama’at-e-Islami reiterates its historical stand that unless and until the issue is not resolved as per the sentiments and aspirations of people, peace in the south Asia will remain a distant dream. “Jama’at vehemently demands that this issue be resolved in the light of United Nations resolutions about it. And if there is any unavoidable impediment in the implementation of these resolutions, tripartite talks should be held to find just solution to this dispute which should reflect the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The statement added that Jama’at-e-Islami expresses its concern over the ongoing human rights violations across the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir and impresses upon international human rights bodies to take notice of this situation and take solid and effective measures to prevent these. “Jama’at expresses its deep disapproval over the proposed government plan which has hinted at starting a crackdown on pro-freedom groups and leaders to prevent their activities. The decision besides being against the democratic values is a blatant human rights violation. Freedom of expression is among the basic human rights and to put curbs on it is a grave human rights violation. While describing this autocratic measure as Changeziyat, Jama’at demands that it be rescinded forthwith,” the spokesperson said.
Jama’at expressed its concern over the continuous harassment and attacks on Kashmiri students studying in various educational and technical institutions across India and said that “it highlights the fact that Kashmiri Muslims are nowhere safe in India and the local administration has completely failed in ending this sense of insecurity.”
Demanding immediate and unconditional release of all political leaders and activists who are held in Jails or other detentions centres within the state or outside the state, JeI J&K said that there is no ‘justification to imprison them’. “They are only voicing and representing the just and genuine demands of their people which is their national duty. Jama’at expresses its sympathy with all the persons who have been imprisoned or detained.”
