A pack of ferocious leopards has created panic in Central Kashmir’s Ladan Nilnag areas of Chadoora Budgam. From the past two weeks the wild beasts have devoured scores of animals while the people are feeling insecure in open and prefer to remain indoors round the clock.

Locals alleged that Wild Life Department has been acting as a mute spectator and doing nothing to trap the wild beasts. Locals said that at least three to four leopards suddenly appear in their area roam freely in open while people prefer to remain indoors. “We have stopped our children from going to schools because these leopards appear anytime in areas like Ledan, Nilnag, Gogjipather, Dobin, Hangvas and Bozgouv.

“They devoured the two sheep of a Shepherd while yesterday attacked the horse of a resident and killed it. So far the wild beasts have devoured scores of animals,” Abdul Aziz a local said.

People especially children and women have restricted themselves in their houses. “Ferocious leopards appear suddenly and after attacking animals vanish suddenly. Children are unable to go to school while woman are feeling scared,” one of the locals said.

A Wild Life Official said that they are on the job and hopefully they will trap these wild animals soon.

Meanwhile in Sopat Tangpora and Avilkhuribatpora areas of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district dozens of sheep were devoured by a pack of leopards.

Reports said that at least four leopards attacked a herd of sheep belonging to a shepherd Ghulam Hasan Rather son of Gul Muhammad and devoured at least 5 sheep and injured 13 of them. Eyewitnesses said that in a similar kind of attack, a pack of leopards made their entry into the cowshed of one Muhammad Ayoub in Avilkhuribatpora and killed 11 sheep and 3 cows there. (CNS)
