Complete shutdown is being observed in the South Kashmir town of Pulwama, Monday against slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on a youth.

People came on roads and raised anti-India slogans today morning.

Waseem Ahmad Sofi (23), son of Bashir Ahmad of Dangerpora village of Pulwama has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA), described.  Waseem has been shifted to Kathua Jail, official sources said.

They said Waseem was arrested last week and after remaining in police custody for three consecutive days, the youth was booked under PSA (DM no. 12 dated 03-05-2012) for his alleged role in pelting stones on the forces.

Meanwhile, amidst shutdown violent clashes erupted in Hajin town of Bandipora district against what the protesters called “the highhandedness” of police.

They alleged that police thrashed aged citizens of the area during nocturnal raids and arrested many fathers instead of their sons.

Sources said that situation in both Pulwama and Hajin towns was tense but under control.
