6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Japan

   

SRINAGAR: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan early on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake occurred 18 kilometres west of Sarabetsu town in Hokkaido at a depth of 81 kilometres (50 miles), according to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage following the tremor.
