6 years on construction of Ganderbal bridge still incomplete, locals aghast

The delay in completion of Yachama Bridge on Nallah Sindh has triggered resentment among the residents in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal District.

Locals said that the old wooden bridge was damaged due to floods and the temporary bridge is not less than a death trap.

They said that the work on the bridge which is estimated at the cost Rs 784 lakhs is ignored.

Locals said that the work on bridge was started six years back which is still incomplete. The added that works on the bridge was started in the year 2010 and was expected to be completed by September 2012.

Locals said that they are forced to carry dead bodies, patients on shoulders due to non-availability of bridge.

They said that initially the work was taken up by the R&B, later it was handed over to JKPCC but they have totally failed to complete it.

Meanwhile, he JKPCC officials said that they don’t have funds.

They said that the matter has been taken up with the higher authorities adding that once funds would be released the work will resume. (PTK)
