SRINAGAR: Security agencies on Monday conducted a large-scale mock drill on the Jammu-Banihal National Highway ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, testing security arrangements, traffic management and emergency response mechanisms along the pilgrimage route.
The exercise involved an escorted convoy of 640 vehicles and was carried out jointly by multiple agencies to assess preparedness for the smooth movement of pilgrims during the forthcoming Yatra.
Officials said the drill focused on convoy security, inter-agency coordination, traffic management and the response of emergency services to various contingencies that could arise during the pilgrimage.
The exercise also evaluated communication systems, deployment strategies and coordination between security personnel and the civil administration to ensure a swift response to any eventuality along the highway.
The mock drill forms part of the comprehensive security and logistical preparations being undertaken ahead of the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra. [KNT]
