SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday seized seven tractors allegedly involved in illegal mining operations in Shopian district and registered an FIR as part of its ongoing drive against the unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals.
According to police, a team from Police Post Turkwangam acted on specific information about illegal mining activities at the Turkwangam Nallah and intercepted seven tractors allegedly transporting minerals without valid royalty documents.
An FIR (No. 86/2026) has been registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant sections of law, and an investigation has been initiated.
Police said it remains committed to protecting the district’s natural resources and will continue taking strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. Members of the public have been urged to report such activities, with police assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
