50 to70 percent polling has been recorded till 2PM in Kashmir for Legislative Council seats and the voting is underway.

“The information which I have as the returning officer for Kashmir, 50 to 70 percent voting was recorded in Kashmir till 2PM,” Asgar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said to Kashmir Life.

70 percent voting has been recorded in some places till 2 PM and in other areas it was 50 percent, he added.

According to Election Monitoring Cell established by the government 99 percent voting was recorded in district Srinagar till 2PM. Sources in the cell said that district Budgam recorded a polling of 87 percent, Ganderbal 94, Bandipora 95, Baramullah 84, Kupwara 91,Pulwama 78, Shopian 86, Islamabad 91, Kulgam83, Leh81 and Kargil recorded a voting of 59 percent till 2 PM.

The polls for the reserved seats in the Legislative Council are being held after 1974, a gap of 38 years.

 “Polling began at 9 am and will continue till 5 pm,” divisional commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon said.

As many as 33,485 panchayat members will decide the fate of 37 candidates in fray.
