7000 Fish Die After Alleged Poisoning in South Kashmir: Officials

   

SRINAGAR: In an alleged act of enmity in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, miscreants caused a loss of lakhs of rupees to a fish farmer on Thursday by reportedly poisoning his fish farm.

Official said that unknown persons allegedly threw a poisonous substance into a fish farm in Heff village of Zainapora, Shopian, resulting in the death of around 7,000 fish.

The farm belongs to Firdous Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Majeed Lone, of Heff Zainapora.

The victim’s family, along with their relatives, has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

They aid that the loss of 7,000 fish amounts to lakhs of rupees and urged authorities to prioritise the probe.

An official said that prima facie, the incident appears to be an act of mischief driven by personal animosity, aimed at inflicting financial losses on the owner.

However, he added that other possibilities are also being examined and that an investigation is underway. (KNO)
