SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) have finalised 7,580 selections since October 2024, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly.
Of these, 1,768 selections were finalised by the JKPSC and 5,812 by the JKSSB, according to a written reply to an Un-Starred Question by MLA Sajad Gani Lone during the ongoing Assembly session.
The government said departments referred 1,852 vacancies to the JKPSC and 12,418 to the JKSSB during the period, taking the total number of vacancies referred to the two recruiting agencies to 14,270.
As on date, departments have reported 38,872 vacant posts under the direct recruitment quota, comprising 3,318 gazetted, 24,427 non-gazetted and 11,127 MTS posts.
The largest number of direct-recruitment vacancies is in the Health and Medical Education Department, with 12,797 posts comprising 2,125 gazetted, 8,064 non-gazetted and 2,608 MTS vacancies.
The Agriculture Production department has 4,939 such vacancies, while School Education has 1,364, Forest, Ecology and Environment 1,619, Finance 1,829, Public Works (R&B) 2,190 and Power Development 1,264.
The government clarified that the vacancy figures include posts already referred to recruiting agencies and posts already advertised for which the selection process is at various stages.
Meanwhile, 899 new posts have been created or sanctioned across nine departments since October 16, 2024.
Health and Medical Education accounts for the largest share with 485 posts, followed by Housing and Urban Development with 266, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs with 82, Jal Shakti with 43 and DMRRR with 16.
The government also disclosed that 38 vacant posts identified as having remained unfilled for more than two years were surrendered as part of austerity measures. Of these, 27 belonged to the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and 11 to the Culture Department.
However, 61 posts in the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department were subsequently revived through Government Order No. 58-JK(FCS&CA) of 2026 dated July 2, 2026. The department said these included posts such as Section Officer, Head Assistant, Junior Assistant, Accountant, Accounts Assistant and Inspector.
The proposal for revival of the 11 surrendered posts in the Culture Department is currently under process with the Finance Department, the government said.
