806 Arrested, Assets Worth Rs 41.85 Crore Attached in Jammu Kashmir Anti-Drug Crackdown: Police

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested 806 persons and registered 724 cases under the NDPS Act during the first month of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan”, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the DGP said the anti-drug campaign, launched on April 11, witnessed a significant increase in enforcement activity compared to the corresponding period last year.

He said police seized 667.5 kilograms of narcotic substances, including 5.22 kilograms of heroin, and recovered 19,059 units of psychotropic drugs between April 11 and May 12.

According to the police chief, 24 habitual offenders were booked under the PIT NDPS Act as part of preventive action against narcotics networks.

Prabhat said properties worth Rs 41.85 crore, allegedly linked to drug trafficking, were attached during the campaign. He added that illegal structures valued at Rs 14.75 crore, constructed on encroached land, were also demolished.

He said one of the major actions during the drive involved the attachment of property worth Rs 6.17 crore in Anantnag. Properties located in Punjab and Chandigarh were also identified and attached in connection with narcotics investigations.

The DGP said police conducted 2,401 awareness programmes in vulnerable areas, reaching more than three lakh people as part of the campaign.

Action was also initiated against 151 chemists and druggists for alleged violations, while 162 driving licences and 92 vehicle registration certificates were suspended or cancelled, he said.

Officials further said recommendations had been made for impounding 10 passports linked to drug-related activities.

Prabhat said Jammu and Kashmir Police had intensified anti-narcotics operations over recent years and claimed the force ranked first in the country in 2025 in preventive detentions under the PIT NDPS Act.
