SRINAGAR: Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mohammad Aijaz Asad on Saturday directed officials to expedite the completion of pending houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) in Jammu and Kashmir, setting April 15, 2026 as the deadline to finish all remaining units.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Rural Development Department, the Secretary was informed that 3,23,299 houses have been completed so far, achieving 97 per cent progress under the rural housing scheme across the Union Territory.
Officials said 3,447 houses have been completed during the past two months, while 11,340 houses remain pending. Asad instructed officers to further accelerate the pace of work to ensure timely completion of the remaining units before the launch of the scheme’s next phase.
He directed Assistant Commissioners Development (ACDs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to monitor each pending case individually and ensure that no sanctioned house remains incomplete. He also asked officials to immediately resolve any technical or administrative issues delaying the works.
Emphasising urgency, Asad said houses left unfinished under the current phase would not be carried forward once the new phase begins, urging officials to make all efforts — including working round the clock if necessary — to meet the deadline.
The Secretary also instructed the Directors of Rural Development for Jammu and Kashmir to conduct weekly review meetings and report progress regularly. He further stressed the need for early release of pending instalments to beneficiaries and directed ACDs to conduct block-wise reviews on the matter.
Referring to the recent survey conducted ahead of the next phase of PMAY-G, Asad said that although the exercise was carried out using AI-based technology, it would still be reviewed at the Deputy Commissioner level to ensure that no eligible household is excluded from the scheme.
The meeting was attended by Director Rural Development Kashmir Shabir Hussain Bhat, Director Rural Development Jammu Shehnaz Akhtar, Joint Director Planning Kamal Kumar Sharma, along with ACDs and BDOs from across Jammu and Kashmir.
