A doctor was arrested for prescribing anti-pregnancy pill to eight-month-old pregnant lady at a city nursing home in Jammu. In the case of “mistaken identity”, two staffers of the nursing home were taken into custody for alleged medical negligence.

The pregnant lady, according to reports, was under treatment of noted gynecologist Dr Indu Khoda, who recommended certain medication to her following her complaint of abdomen pain. Conceding to the prescription, the lady and her husband went to the private hospital where she was given wrong treatment, resulting in the termination of her eight month pregnancy.

“A lady namely Stuti Sharma, wife of Rakesh Sharma, resident of tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri this morning had gone to a private hospital running in the name and style of JK Medicity, in Channi Himmat area for medical check- up,” DySP Rafiq Manhas, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jammu East said.

Manhas told that the lady was eight months pregnant and she was administered wrong treatment in place of another patient and later her pregnancy was aborted.

“There were two cases of pregnancy and the woman, who had to be aborted was left unchecked by the doctors instead the victim was administered wrong treatment and later aborted,” he said.

He added that the infant died in the womb. “It was a case of negligence. We have registered the case under FIR number 66/2014 under sections 304-A and 313 of RPC,” Manhas said.

He added that two of the para-medicos have been taken into the custody. They have been identified as Amarjeet Singh and Multi Purpose Health Worker namely Roma Devi.
