Srinagar: A mother of six children died on Friday due to alleged negligence by doctors in Trauma Hospital, Kangan.
According to the family, Fareeda Bano, 35, wife of Abdul Jaleel Bijard, a resident of Hilpati Haknar in Gund was admitted to Trauma Hospital Kangan on Thursday for operation. “My mother was operated by a lady doctor around 3:00 pm on the same day,” said slain woman’s daughter Zehru Nissa. It was a family planning procedure.
After the operation was over, according to Nissa, her mother was shifted to a ward. She said that her mother was crying in the plain whole night and no doctor was present in the hospital for night hours.
Instead of assigning a doctor in the ward the hospital had deputed a nurse in the hospital, who according to the family was not able to manage the patient.
On Friday early morning, a team of doctors arrived to the ward and asked us to shift the patient to SKIMS Soura for the specialized treatment.
Her relatives said that it is a sheer negligence on the part of hospital authorities. She was declared “brought dead” by doctors at SKIMS Soura on Friday, adding that the deceased woman is the mother of six children and her husband is deaf.
The family has demanded stern action against concerned persons who were not present on night duties at Kangan hospital.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ganderbal, Dr Roshan Din Kasana while denying the allegations said that there were two doctors present for the duty night in the hospital. “Our doctors had referred her to SKIMS Srinagar after some complications were found out and Fareeda died after she was shifted to SKIMS Srinagar.”
“I have constituted an inquiry team of 4 doctors from the hospital who will file the report within two days,” he added.
