In Sunday’s major reshuffle of civil and police administration by cabinet chaired by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Kashmir range’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Gani Mir has been transferred and posted as IGP CID.
With this posting of Mir, Mufti led coalition government has broke the jinx and appointed Muslim as a head of state’s intelligence organisation after more than two decades.
Hailing from remote village of Kupwara, Mir attained education from different institutions of Kupwara district. In 1986, Mir left his village for Aligarh Muslim University and from there he completed his MBA. Before preparing for civil services, Mir worked in private company for few months in New Delhi.
Mir after joining Kashmir cadre in 2006 established a career counseling centre Institute For Study Learning & Analysis (ISLA). “I thought people like me can help the youth to achieve their goals by providing them proper counseling & guidance,” Mir is quoted to have said about the initiative.
