SRINAGAR: In an attempt to get a stronghold in the UT of Ladakh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now contesting its maiden election of the Kargil Hill Development Council in the region.

Quoting party sources, KNO reported that the party has been trying to gain a foothold in the region and rope in many new and educated faces for the good of the party.

“The Union Territory leadership has been trying hard to evoke a response in Kargil as well and for the first time 4 of their candidates are continuing LAHDC polls. There were many faces and some didn’t come to the terms of the party forcing them not to give them a mandate and support,” sources said.

They said that four of the AAP candidates are contesting for the first time in Kargil. “There are a total of 30 seats in the council of which 26 are elected and 4 are announced by the administration.”

Party sources also said that this is their first contest and they have not left the hope of gaining more support in Kargil.

Meanwhile, Tsering Phuntsog, AAP Ladakh UT president while acknowledging the fact about their first contest in Kargil said that this is just the beginning.

“Four candidates are in the poll fray. We are holding campaigns and two road shows were also held to evoke public response. The process is underway and our party associates are working on the ground,” he said.

The Ladakh party chief said that they are approaching the people with an agenda everydayl concerns. “Unemployment, Education, Health, Development, and other native issues are some of the concerns. We are also fighting against the biggest threat of corruption.”

He also said that AAP has come as an alternative for the people of Ladakh and they know this party. “Delhi model is known to all. People are responding very positively. We believe our party can evoke a good response.”

Notably, the schedule for the 5th general LAHDC elections has already been issued by the election authority in Ladakh. The poll date has been slated on 4th October after the re-notification following the Supreme Court verdict earlier this month. A paid holiday has also been announced by the administration in Kargil given the election—(KNO)
