A 14 year old girl was reported dead when she started fiddling with an abandoned shell in Lolab forests, not far away from home. She and two of her sisters had gone to collect fuel-wood that is massively in demand as the mercury has gone phenomenally down.

Reports said residents of Varnu village, the three daughters of Ghulam Mohammad Shah were collecting feul-wood when one of the sisters – Nuzhat traced a shiny things and started fiddling with it. It blasted and within fractions she ceased to exist as her body parts were thrown around.

The blast led attracted the villagers to the spot who collected the body and took it to the sub district hospital in Sogam for autopsy and mandatory registration of FIR.She was later laid to rest. It was not immediately known which force – security men or militants, had abandoned the shell. Not much detail is available about the explosive item abandoned in the forest.

A local news gathering agency KMN said this is the second such incident in last three days. On Tuesday Afrooza wife of Abdul Majid, a resident of Kandi Kupwara also blasted to death in almost similar circumstances.

Conflicting state and non state actors in J&K are used to forgetting part of their fighting arsenal in forests and hideouts across Kashmir. This apparent forget-fullness has led to scores of deaths across the state in last more than 20 years.
