A family from Shopian district in southern part of Kashmir Wednesday staged a protest here in Press Colony Srinagar alleging that culprits responsible for the ‘abduction and rape’ of their 16 years old girl are roaming free while police have been doing nothing to track them.

Husaain Ali (name changed) of Check Saidapora Shopian along with his son and daughter (name withheld) held a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar and narrated their tale. The family willingly identified themselves before the media in order to get justice.

“A month ago, over 15 persons barged into our house at 9:30 pm and abducted my daughter who is only 16 years old. She was kept at an unknown place during that period three beasts raped her. My daughter recorded her statement before court and categorically identified the culprits. The doctors who conducted medical check-up confirmed rape but after few days police informed us that medical report is negative. We fail to understand why police changed its version and why it has failed to nab the molesters,” he said.

The victim girl while identifying some of the culprits as Shabir Keela, Khurshid Sheikh, Showkat Sheikh, Altaf Keela, Latif Keela all hailing from the same village said that she can easily identify other culprits if they are paraded before her. “Three culprits repeatedly intoxicated me and the abused me. They kept me in a shed wherefrom I was recovered by police. Police have so far arrested only three culprits while no action has been initiated against them,” she said and sought intervention of Director General and Inspector General Police.

The brother of the victim girl said that her sister was abducted and abused because there is a dispute over a piece of land between them and their neighbours. “They are goons and work as a gang. Earlier also this gang abducted and abused a girl and now they targeted my sister. Instead of supporting us, police have been harassing us,” he said and added that they have shifted her sister to a rented room somewhere in Srinagar.

Station House Officer, Harporo Shopian Muhammad Iqbal said that the victim has recorded her statement in court and their Counsel can plead her case in the court of law. “We have arrested some of the accused and investigation is going on,” he said. (With inputs from CNS)
