SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested a man who had been evading arrest for the past eight years, marking a major success in its ongoing drive against absconders and proclaimed offenders.
Police identified the accused as Javid Ahmad Ahanger, son of Ali Mohammad Ahanger, a resident of Judinambal Panzla. He was wanted in Case FIR No. 31/2014 under sections 457 and 380 of the Ranbir Penal Code registered at Police Station Sopore.
According to officials, Ahanger had been absconding since 2017 to avoid arrest. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team traced and apprehended him after sustained efforts.
Following completion of legal formalities, the accused was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sopore and subsequently lodged in Subsidiary Jail Sopore.
