ABVP stops IUST students from playing match for “disrespecting National anthem”

Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of right wing Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday reportedly stopped the football match between the students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and Jammu University alleging disrespect to National Anthem.

Reports said that the match was being played at Jammu University playground when the ABVP activists stopped students of IUST from playing.

 

The incident took place when final match was being played.

Some forty men waving ABVP flags warned us by shouting that you have to sing Vande Matram, if you want to live here, reports quoting students said.

Students refuted allegations of disrespecting National Anthem and said that they stood up in respect when the anthem was played in the begging of the match.

Reports said that students were compelled to left the ground without playing the match.

When contacted for comment on the incident Public Relations office of the university failed to receive repeated calls from Kashmir Life.

Faculty member accompanying the IUST students while speaking with Kashmir Life said that , the incident was reported to Director sports of the university but he refused to intervene saying , the matter is not within my competence.

“We approached Vice Chancellor of the university and briefed him about the incident,” the faculty member said.
