Prof S Mufeed Ahmad, faculty Department of Business Management, University of Kashmir is known for his exceptional caliber and outstanding research contributions in the area of Human Resource Development (HRD) in India. He has also contributed in grooming many vibrant researchers who have already starting making an impact at regional, national and international levels.   Recently Prof Mufeed was honored with ‘Best Academic Achievements Award 2009’ from World’s leading biographical specialists—International Publishing House.
Armed with PhD in Human Research Development, PGDBA and FDPM from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad (IIM-A) Mufeed was the  first academician from the state who was selected for one year course “FDPM” during 1995 – 1996 by IIM Ahmadabad.
In addition to that Mufeed has written three books and is credited for more than fifty critically acclaimed research papers published in various National and International Journals.
Ask him how he got thus far, he says, “I was always a hard worker. I never felt shy learning new things whenever I found opportunities I acquired knowledge from any person without his status, creed color and religion.”
Hailing from down town area of Khaniyar, Mufeed was born and brought up in a business family and was assumed to end up as a businessman. However, since his childhood he was more interested in academics. He completed his schooling from Islamia Higher Secondary School. Mufeed says, “when I was in class 9th, I was actively participating in debates, seminars and other circular activities. On the basis of my performances in those activities I was selected for NCERT national level training, conducted at Tamil Nadu. We were highly appreciated for representing Islamia School by our chairman Molvi Farooq and other teachers and that boosted my confidence.”
By the time he completed his high school he selected Commerce for further studies. Mufeed did his graduation from Islamia college of Science and Commerce and was among the toppers of his batch. He says, “I never believe in receiving private tuition. Whenever I got the chance I used to share books and knowledge with my friends.”
Mufeed says, “my father was a self made person. At a young age he earned a furniture factory and a couple of shops at Khaniyar. His feats often guided me to lead an independent life. For the reason I worked with a medical shop to earn at least some amount to continue my studies.” According to him working at medial shop added his independent streak.
In 1981 he joined Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir for post graduation. Before the declaration of my post graduate result I qualified JRF Net and was appointed as Junior Research Assistant in Eco Development Project conducted at Kashmir University, sanctioned by Planned Commission Development of India.” While working on that project Mufeed was offered another job at Planning Commission Department and worked there for few years. In 1990 he again joined KU and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, then MPhil and after that PHD.
Mufeed says, “Immediately after M. Phil in 1990 I was appointed as Lecturer cum coordinator in distance education.”  
In 1992 he was selected as a lecturer at Dept of Management studies and presently he is serving the department as a professor.   
Besides academic Prof Mufeed has also contributed to the corporate life of University. He has also worked as chief proctor, warden hostels, chairman placement cell, coordinator HRD and training in e governance project of Kashmir University funded by Ministry of information Technology. Mufeed has also conducted several mega events of National and international status. In 2008 he conducted first job Fair at University of Kashmir wherein more than 400 graduates and post graduates got inducted in various national and multinational companies. He is also visiting faculty for conducting sessions for senior level executives and other faculties within and outside state.
For his excellence he obtained excellence teaching award based on bottom –up appraisal conducted by IQAQ Kashmir University in the year 2006.  In 2007 he was awarded “Best Citizen of Indian Academic Award”. He is also recipient of “State award 2007” and  in 2008 he received “Shiksha Rattan Puraskar” and  certificate of appreciation from Associated Press of India.  
For students Mufeed says that our students are very talented but they have to prove their talent.  They should work on their weakness and strengths. The moment they discover their weakness and strength certainly they will come to know opportunities they are going to get in future. Within the time it also helps them to maintain the pace of competition.
