SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Friday trapped and arrested Junior Engineer, Rural Development Department, Block Trehgam in Kupwara for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000/- for preparing bills.

A statement issued here said Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging therein that Gh Hassan, Junior Engineer of Rural Development Department, Block Tregham, District Kupwara is demanding a bribe of ₹8000 for preparing Bill for the work executed by the complainant under MGNREGA.

“The complainant alleged that the accused Junior Engineer (JE) was adopting delaying tactics and not preparing bill for the work executed by the complainant under MGNREGA & 14th FC at village Kunan Block Tregham, District Kupwara. The said Junior Engineer was demanding bribe of ₹8000 from the complainant as his commission,” said the statement.

“Upon receiving the instant complaint prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, case FIR No. 06/2022 was registered at P/S ACB Baramulla. Subsequently, a trap team was constituted,” it said, adding that the trap team caught Gh Hassan Jr. Engineer of Rural Development Department (REW), Block Trehgam, District Kupwara red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8000/- from the complainant.

“He was arrested and taken into custody by ACB Team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses,” it said.

“Further investigations of the case is going on,” said the statement.
