In a statement, a spokesperson said that the ACB received a written complaint alleging that a public servant, Farooq Ahmed, Girdwar of Sanasar, was demanding a Rs 60,000 bribe for processing the complainant’s fard case. “However, after negotiation, the deal was settled for Rs 40,000,” the statement reads.

The statement further reads, “The complainant chose not to pay the bribe and instead approached the ACB to take legal action against the accused. Upon receiving the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand by the concerned public servant. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 02/2024 under Section 7 of the PC Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Doda, and the investigation was initiated.”

The ACB then set a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹40,000 from the complainant.

He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Further investigation of the case is ongoing, the statement reads. (KNO)
