SRINAGAR: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday said it has arrested a Sarpanch and Village Level Worker (VLW) in Norkhah area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district while taking and accepting bribe amounting to 10000 for releasing labour payments.
An official spokesman of ACB said they have received a written complaint wherein the complainant has alleged that Sarpanch Halqa Zainpora in and VLW are demanding Rs 40000 as a bribe for the release of labour payments.
The spokesman said, on this complaint a discreet verification was conducted by ACB, based on findings of the Enquiry Officer prima facie offences u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Sec 120-B IPC was made out against the alleged accused persons Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, Sarpanch, Halqa Zainpora and VLW Farooq Joo posted at Block Office, Norkhah, District Baramulla.
He said, accordingly, the case was registered u/s 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and section 120-B IPC.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The trap team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Sarpanch Nasir Sheikh while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. Other accused VLW Farooq Joo was also arrested.
Searches were also conducted at the premises of the accused.
Further investigation into the case is going on, ACB spokesman said.
