SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a charge-sheet against a former Computer Operator of the PWD (R and B) Circle Ganderbal in connection with a bribery case involving Rs 4,000.
Officials said the charge-sheet was presented before the Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 07/2022 registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for June 10.
According to the ACB, the accused, identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, was serving as Computer Operator in PWD (R and B) Circle Ganderbal at the time of the offence.
The case was registered on March 2, 2022, following a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded Rs 4,000 as a bribe for issuing a D-Class contractor card.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The money was recovered from the spot, and subsequent chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein powder on the accused’s hands.
Officials said the investigation established sufficient evidence of corruption under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following which the charge-sheet was filed after completion of all legal and departmental formalities.
