The ACB identified the officer as Inspector (M) Peer Zada Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, son of Peer Zada Mohammad Akber Shah, a resident of Wahabpora, Budgam. The Bureau said the officer was found in possession of substantial movable and immovable assets in his own name and in the names of his family members that far exceeded his lawful earnings.

An FIR (No. 20/2025) has been registered after a secret verification confirmed that the officer had amassed unexplained wealth during his tenure in service. According to the ACB, preliminary investigations revealed that the accused owned over three kanals of land in Budgam, including property at Shahpora Wathora, along with a double-storey house at Ompora Colony. He also maintained bank deposits of approximately Rs 2.48 crore and owned several vehicles registered in the names of his family members.

Officials further said that scrutiny of his financial records indicated multiple high-value transactions and unaccounted cash inflows. The officer had also reportedly spent more than Rs 2.40 crore on his children’s education in reputed institutions.

The Bureau stated that the income-expenditure assessment showed a clear mismatch between his legitimate earnings from January 2012 to June 2025 and the assets he possessed. Following registration of the case under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB carried out searches at his Budgam properties under court orders dated October 10.

Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of his assets and possible involvement of other individuals. (KNT)
