SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday registered a case against the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee, Shopian, and others for misappropriation of funds.

According to a statement, the ACB registered a case of criminal misappropriation against Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee, Shopian, along with Ghulam Rasool Mir, Khilafwarzi Officer, Naseer Ahmad Indrabi, Head Assistant, Showkat Hussain Teli, Works Supervisor, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Driver, and others, under sections 5(1)(c)(d) r/w 5(2) of JK Prevention of Corruption Act Svt 2006 and section 120-B RPC following a verification process.

“During the verification process, it was discovered that the Municipal Committee, Shopian, had purchased an Ashoka Leyland BS-IV Tipper from the GeM Portal in 2018. It was found that fuel worth 11,051 litres was issued between January 2018 and March 2020, with figures inflated to manipulate fuel consumption,” it reads.

“The Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Shopian, constituted a committee that had fixed fuel consumption at 11 litres per hour for the said Tipper. Consequently, 8 litres of fuel per hour was misappropriated by the individuals involved, amounting to 11,051 litres during the stated period. Additionally, fuel measuring 3566 litres was issued for an already grounded Tipper from February 2018 to March 2020, leading to misappropriation of funds amounting to several lakhs,” the statement said.

Following the case registration, searches were conducted at the residential houses of the accused located at Bemina Srinagar, Frestbal Pampore, Puchal Pulwama, Batpora Shopian, and Hargam Shopian. During the search, important documents related to the case were collected and seized. Further investigation is ongoing—(KNO)
