SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against two mining officials and private persons over alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, overcharging and manipulation of electronic challans in Udhampur and Reasi districts.
According to an ACB press release issued on October 15, 2026, the case has been registered as FIR No. 09/2026 at ACB Police Station Udhampur against Rajeev Jammu, Assistant Mining Engineer, District Mining Officer Udhampur; Rameshwar Sangra, District Mining Officer Reasi; Swaran Singh Rathore and other private persons.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended, and other applicable laws.
The ACB said its enquiry had revealed allegations that certain private mining operators, including stone crusher operators, extracted minor minerals beyond permissible limits and continued mining activities after the expiry of their leases.
The allegations also include charging rates higher than those notified by the government, manipulation and misuse of electronic challans, and operation of stone crusher units beyond the validity of their mandatory Consent to Operate (CTO).
According to the bureau, the enquiry further indicated the alleged involvement of public servants in facilitating these activities in connivance with private operators.
The ACB is investigating the individual roles of the accused, the extent of alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, the overcharging involved and the resulting loss, if any, to the government exchequer.
The bureau has also initiated searches at the residential and commercial premises of the accused persons. The searches and investigation were continuing, the press release stated.
The ACB said action would be taken in accordance with the law against those found involved in illegal mining, corruption, abuse of official position and causing losses to the government exchequer.
