Authorities on Saturday temporarily shut down the Preng-Ganderbal power canal water supply to central Kashmir to locate the body of a teenage boy who drowned during a picnic on Friday, August 24. The search on Friday led to the recovery of another body from the canal.

The dead man was identified as Mohammad Amin Shah, 45, son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah, resident of Benhama, Laar Ganderbal.

Khalil Ahmad Poswal, the SSP Ganderbal confirmed Kashmir Life over phone that they have recovered a body. “The body was recovered in highly suspicious condition. His feet were tied with a rope.”

He added, “When we contacted his family they too were not giving the details properly. Our preliminary investigation has revealed that he had two disputes: one with his in-laws and another in neighbourhood. We are still investigating all other links to the case.”

Meanwhile, the body of Shah has been handed over to his family after doing all the mandatory medical investigations.

Shah, according to SSP Poswal, had left his home on Thursday at 10 am and his body was recovered on Friday, around 15 kilometers away from his home. He also informed that family of Shah had not filed any missing report with the local police station. “Shah was earlier working as a SPO but then he had left his job. Presently he was working as a carpenter for the last 5 or 6 years,” he said.

Water supply has been restored in Ganderbal areas as the last report came in.

Earlier an official said the water supply was cut in Sindh power canal as per the orders of district administration Ganderbal due to which the drinking water supply to  areas like Lar, Waliwar, Chuntiwaliwar, Wakura, Ganderbal Town, Wusan, Wayil, Nuner, Watalbagh, Tulmullah, Shairpatri, Malshahibagh, Shuhama, Bakura remained affected.
