Accused Arrested in South Kashmir for Circulating Explicit Video: Police

   

SRINAGAR: Police on Friday said they have arrested an individual accused of circulating a video of a girl in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

In a statement a  police spokesperson said, “We received a written complaint from a person alleging that his sister’s (name withheld) video containing indecent and sexually explicit content was being circulated on various social media platforms and WhatsApp groups by multiple individuals. Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 186/2024 at Police Station Awantipora under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and other laws. Investigation was initiated promptly.”

The police spokesperson said that during the preliminary investigation, the allegations were found to be true. Swift action led to the arrest of the accused involved in the crime. Further investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the case.

Police have advised social media users not to upload or circulate such videos, as it constitutes an offence under the Information Technology Act, carrying a punishment of up to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. Any violation of this advisory will be dealt with according to the law.
