Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, KK Sharma, on Wednesday asked the officers to make the process of granting mining permission more transparent so that level playing field is provided to the stakeholders.

Advisor Sharma reviews establishment of new Industrial Estates in J&K

The Advisor was chairing a meeting to discuss the mining issues in the UT of J&K.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce, Naveen K Choudhary; Secretary Revenue, Abdul Majeed Bhat; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan; Director Industries Kashmir and Deputy Commissioners participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

The meeting was also attended by Director Industries Jammu, Director Handicrafts Development Department, MDs of JK Industries and Handicraft Development Corporation.

Advisor Sharma called for undertaking capacity building of the officers of Geology and Mining Department so that they can effectively carry on the process in view of the new rules and regulations.

He said that ecological concerns should also be addressed to preserve the fauna and flora in the region.

It was decided that the department of Geology and Mining would adopt e-tendering process to make the process transparent for granting permission for un-auctioned mines and ensure larger participation of people.

“The successful bidders will have to prepare a mining plan and get the requisite permission under the Air and Water Act” the meeting decided.

It was also decided that the allotment would be done within 30 days after successful e-tender bidding.
