SRINAGAR: After frequent wet spells until last week, parts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a sudden rise in the maximum temperature on Tuesday, with most stations in the Union Territory, including the twin capitals, experiencing the hottest day of the season.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded the hottest day of the season at 29.2 degrees Celsius, while the winter capital of the Union Territory, Jammu, also recorded the hottest day of the season at 38.5 degrees Celsius.

All stations across Kashmir recorded the hottest day of the season, with Qazigund at 28.2 degrees Celsius, Kupwara at 27.7 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag at 26.6 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam also recorded the hottest day of the season at 24.6 degrees Celsius, with a similar temperature recorded yesterday. Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, also recorded the hottest day of the season at 19.0 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu division, several places recorded the hottest day of the season, including Banihal, Katra, and Bhaderwah.

In Banihal, a maximum temperature of 29.0 degrees Celsius was recorded today, while in Katra and Bhaderwah, the mercury settled at 35.1 degrees Celsius and 30.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Moreover, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the weather is expected to remain generally dry with the possibility of afternoon thundershowers until May 10.

On May 11, the MeT Director stated that there is a forecast of partly to generally cloudy weather with the forecast of light rain and thunder at many places.

He added that on May 12, the weather would remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain and snow (higher reaches) at many places with thunder activity at a few places, while on May 13, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain at a few places. (KNO)
