NEW DELHI: Saira, the spouse of celebrated musician AR Rahman, has announced her decision to part ways with her husband after 29 years of marriage. The announcement, made on Tuesday through her legal representative Vandana Shah, highlighted the emotional challenges that led to the couple’s decision to separate.

In a statement released to the media, Vandana Shah conveyed, “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.”
Saira expressed that the decision was taken with a heavy heart, describing it as stemming from “pain and agony.” She also requested privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging period in her life.
AR Rahman and Saira were married in 1995 and are parents to three children—Raheema, Ameen, and Khatija. Their union, often noted for mutual respect and shared values, has been a cornerstone of their personal and professional lives.
In response to the announcement, their son AR Ameen shared a message on social media requesting privacy for the family. “Thank you for your understanding,” he wrote.
On the professional front, AR Rahman remains a prominent figure in the music industry. His recent works include composing for Raayan, directed by Dhanush, and upcoming projects like Thug Life, Chhaava, and Gandhi Talks.
The couple’s separation marks the end of an enduring partnership that spanned nearly three decades, leaving fans and well-wishers in shock and extending their support during this difficult time.
