SRINAGAR

Army Monday allegedly thrashed two brothers during a search operation in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, eye-witnesses said.

They said that Shah Faisal, 20, was beaten by army men who had laid a cordon in Bhat Mohalla of Rajpora in Handwara Tehsil at 7 am today.

Faisal, witnesses said, had left home to buy milk and bread when army men stopped him.

“Imtiyaz Ahmad, his elder brother, went to plead for his brother’s innocence, but he was also beaten by the forces,” a local resident claimed.

Police while confirming the incident said they haven’t taken any action so far.

“Yes, we have heard about this incident but no report has been lodged yet,” said SHO Zachaldara.

Locals said that out of fear of reprisal, the victims have not lodged a police complaint.
