The upbeat debutants after defeating the Mohan Bagan football club at Salt Lake Stadium, officially known as Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, the stadium in Bidhannagar, Kolkata, has moved to number two in rank, after Chennai City. Interestingly, Chennai City has already lost a match with Real Kashmir earlier.
At their home ground in Kolkata, the team Mohun Bagan lost their second successive defeat in I-league after they went down 2-1 to Real Kashmir today afternoon.
Mason Robertson, (33′, 73′), who plays as a centre back for Real Kashmir scored both the goals for the visitors whereas Sony Norde, (42′) a Haitian footballer, who plays for club Mohun Bagan was on target for Bagan with a sublime free-kick.
For Real Kashmir Mason Robertson was reinstated in the starting line-up and Gnohere Krizo was left out of the matchday squad. It was one-way traffic for the entire first-half as Mohun Bagan started to dominate proceedings right from the first whistle.
Earlier, Mohun Bagan won back-to-back matches against Minerva and Shillong Lajong FC after losing the Kolkata derby but faltered against Neroca FC in their previous encounter to slip to the sixth position on the table. But interestingly, the snow leopards, in the first leg, lost to Mohun Bagan by a solitary goal and since then the debutants are on an unbeaten run from six matches.
Pertinently, for the first time, I-League debutants Real Kashmir Football Club have pulled off a major sponsorship coup by signing up sportswear giant Adidas for the national season. Till now, no other football team has an association with the global brand.
Congratulating the team, former finance minister of Kashmir Dr Haseeb A Drabu took to his twitter and wrote: “Amazing! @realkashmir beats @Mohun_Bagan 2:1! A toddler slays a giant! Talent accepted, hard work admitted, strategy acknowledged but this has to have divine sanction and support! Too good it is true! Wow!.”
