A day after 47 corporators moved a no-confidence motion against Sheikh Imran, Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, another no-confidence motion by 40 corporators was moved against Mayor Junaid Mattu on Tuesday.

While confirming the development, SMC Commissioner, Khurshid Sanai  said that no-confidence motion by 40 corporators was moved against the Mayor. “Under rules, after 48-hours floor test has to be done,” he said.

On no-confidence motion against deputy Mayor, he said, “We received his resignation letter today.”

Sheikh Imran’s father Sheikh Mushtaq confirmed that his son has sent the resignation letter. “The resignation letter has been received by the SMC Commissioner,” he said.

Sources said that some of the corporators, who moved no-confidence-motion against the mayor include, Sheikh Imran, Aaqib Renzu, Inayat Rather, Abdul Majeed Tantray, Ghulam Nabi, Wajahat and Sabia Irfan.

Sheikh Mushtaq said that his son supported the no-confidence-motion against the Mayor.

However, Mattu said that out of the 40 corporators, who have moved no-confidence-motion against him, signatures of 10-12 have been forged. “10-12 corporators approached the SMC commissioner and told him that their signatures have been forged. We have enough strength to prove majority,” he said.(KNS)
