Srinagar

The details continue to remain confusing and blurry after gunmen fired on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Mirbazar in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Saturday late evening.

In the attack four people including a police man were killed while three others sustained injuries, reports and hospital sources said.

The attack took place when cops were clearing traffic on the highway—the only route connecting Kashmir with mainland India.

As per the reports and sources, the gunmen fired near Malpora village resulting in the injuries to seven people.

The injured were immediately referred to district hospital Islamabad, where four of them died. The three were referred to Srinagar hospital.

Hospital sources initially said that two of the dead are police personnel while other two appear to be civilians.

However, later a doctor said that only one of the dead is police man. Identity of other three could not be ascertained, he said.

However, sources said that from the pocket of one slain, some bullet rounds and a grenade was recovered. DG police SP Vaid also confirmed, as per reports carried by a Delhi based news channel, that one of the slain is a militant and ammunition has been recovered from his possession.

Among the injured two civilians are stated to be in stable condition while the third one was critical when he was referred to Srinagar.

However, no police officials shared any details about the incidents on record.
