Afzal Guru’s Execution Achieved Nothing, Says Omar; BJP Reacts

SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said that he does not believe that any purpose was served by executing Kashmiri separatist Afzal Guru. He clarified that the Jammu and Kashmir government had no involvement in the process.

He also stated that if state approval had been required, it would not have been granted. Abdullah further said, “The unfortunate thing was that the J&K government had nothing to do with Afzal Guru’s execution. Otherwise, you would have had to do it with the permission of the state government, which I can tell you in no uncertain terms would not have been forthcoming. We wouldn’t have done it.”

“I don’t believe that any purpose was served by executing him,” Abdullah said in an interview with news agency ANI.

BJP National Spokesperson R P Singh targeted both Omar Abdullah and his ally Rahul Gandhi over Omar’s remarks on Afzal Guru’s hanging. He said that Rahul Gandhi must answer why he is supporting Omar Abdullah who don’t accept rules of Indian constitution and Indian law.

Reacting to Omar’s remarks, BJP’s Sajid Yousuf said that Guru’s hanging was an important step towards delivering justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
