Police on Friday put Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence, a spokesperson of the amalgam said.
Mirwaiz was scheduled to lead the protest called by the joint resistance leadership against the slapping of PSA on Asiya Andrabi, Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, the spokesperson said.
The joint resistance leadership has called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the slapping of PSA on Andrabi and her aide Sofi Fehmeeda. The duo was shifted to Aphalla jail in Jammu on Thursday.
Earlier, in a statement issued on Thursday, the joint resistance leadership condemned the move and termed it “worst form of state-terrorism”.
