Authorities late Tuesday night put Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to stop him from participating in proposed funeral prayers in absentia of Amanullah Khan on Wednesday.

Spokesperson of the amalgam said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to head a meeting of the Hurriyat amalgam and participate in the Gayibana Nimaz-e-Jinaza proposed at Lal Chowk today.

Earlier, JKLF Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik too was arrested and lodged at Kothibagh police station to stop the proposed prayers for JKLF co-founder who passed away yesterday in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Another JKLF leader Javed Mir was also detained at Abi Guzar.

JKLF had called for the funeral prayers in-absentia for the deceased leader.

In North Kashmir’s Trehgam,Gayibana Nimaz-e-Jinaza was held late Tuesday night. Trehgam is home village of JKLF co-founder, Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged to death in Tihar jail in 1984.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (g) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house detention.
