Authorities’ on Friday placed the Hurriyat (m) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest ahead of the JRL protest call against the custodial killing of a teacher.

Reports said that fearing demonstrations by the people, authorities have placed Mirwaiz under house arrest ahead of the protest “program”. An eyewitness said that historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar was also sealed and a huge posse of government forces is deployed in downtown area of Srinagar.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik earlier appeled the people to protest after Friday prayers against the custodial killing of Rizwan Asad Pandit. Pandit was killed in a custody on Monday night.

“On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, after Friday (Juma) prayers, people at all Masajid, Khanqahs and Imam Baras will raise their voices peacefully against this custodial killing by NIA and SOG and continuing policy of violence in the Kashmir,” JRL in a statement said.
