Ahead of proposed joint rally by separatists across ideological divide, the authorities have detained Hurriyat (m) chief, JKLF chief and many other activists.

Hurriyat amalgams and JKLF had proposed a joint rally on July 13 – marking commemoration of Martyrs of 1931.

Octogenarian Syed Ali Geelani is under going continuous house detention while his deputy Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai is severely ill.

Under going house arrest, Hurriyat (g) spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, while speaking to Kashmir Life said, “Police have detained me in my house while Raja Meraj Din has been arrested and put under arrest in Police Station Nowgam.”

“Geelani Sahab is already under going house arrest while Sehrai Sahab has severely fallen, however, police did got to arrest him to his house but later on left the place.” He added that police raided houses of many of Hurriyat (g) activists ahead of Martyrs Day rally.

Shahid-Ul-Islam, spokesperson of Mirwaiz led Hurriyat amalgam informed that valley’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was put under house around Sehri time on Sunday.

An activist of JKLF said that Muhammad Yasin Malik was put under house arrest Saturday late evening while its member Noor Muhammad Kalwal was arrested by police.

Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Khan too are going under house detention.

Significantly, separatists put up a joint face Saturday evening at Geelani’s residence. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik attended an Iftaar party organized by Hurriyat (g) and vowed to carry on the struggle, ‘altogether’.

A statement from Hilal War’s party said that in view of the raids by police, the separatist has gone under ground on eve of July 13.
