Ahead of ‘Srinagar Million March’, Police Launch Crackdown on Separatists; Malik, Shah Detained

Ahead of octogenarian Syed Ali Geelani’s proposed ‘Srinagar Million March’, JKLF chief and senior Hurriyat (g) leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah, have been detained late Saturday evening.

Geelani has announced ‘Srinagar Million March’ on the day when Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, shall be visiting Jammu and Kashmir on November 07. He is expected to announce a special economic package for the flood devastated state.

Reports reaching here said that police detained several leaders of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), including Yasin Malik.

Malik was lodged at police station Kothi Bagh after the detention along with Showkat Bakhshi, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Mohammad Amin Magloo.

According to Shabir Shah led Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), a large contingent of police force this late evening laid a siege on party’s Sanat Nagar office and arrested Shabir Ahmad Shah who was taken to some undisclosed location.

The DFP spokesperson said, “the administration is so scared of pro-freedom leadership that without arresting them, they can’t have a sound sleep.”

While Geelani is under continuous house detention since he returned from New Delhi early this spring, Hurriyat (g) chairperson early today asked people to make November 07 program “a success”.
