SRINAGAR: In a groundbreaking move, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, India’s premier central tertiary care hospital, has witnessed a pivotal moment in its 68-year history with the appointment of its first-ever woman Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr Nirupam Madaan.
Originally from Jammu, Dr Nirupam Madaan brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. An alumna of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, she further honed her skills by obtaining an MD in Hospital Administration from SKIMS Kashmir. Her journey to the top echelons of AIIMS began with her selection for senior residency at the prestigious institution in New Delhi.
What sets Dr Nirupam apart is not only her professional prowess but also her historic role as the first woman to hold the position of Medical Superintendent in the esteemed institute. Before she was appointed Medical Superintendent, Dr Nirupam served as the additional Medical Superintendent of the JPNA Trauma Centre, which played a crucial role as the designated COVID hospital of AIIMS during the challenging times of the pandemic.
